In some of my other builds I found that changing the gap at the end of the BP is good for about a 10 to 15 degree change so I sized this one slightly larger than the max throat size and quit there …. I can make it adjustable later if it needs it ….

It will create a hot spot slightly larger than the one the recommended throat opening would have created.
However; it is easily fixed with a shadow plate.

I have looked up shadow plate in the forum but found only references to having used them. Can someone explain or post a photo of what a shadow plate might do and look like?

A shadow plate is a sheet of steel put between the fire and a plate you're having a problem with. In my example it might be between the fire and BP so it takes the main heat - gets hot - re-radiates the heat and causes the hot spot to spread out and hopefully not become an issue. They're also helpful in reducing warpage in a door or most any other plate.
On your BP if the cuts are nice and clean and straight and the plate is good heavy 1/4 inch then gravity should do the job alone.
A removable BP can be a B!&@# to get back out so design some holes/hooks to grab it with - Check out "Edgar is underway…" for how I did his.
Remember; gravity is not just a good idea - it's the law!

Smokinff; Yes. I've been amazed how much an inward slope helps group the fuel as it burns…..

Gizmo,
You do some great stuff out there...hopefully you won't mind a few more questions?
1.) do you have the fire basket on a track for slide out
2.) about how much space do you allow on the side dampers to freely open and close as needed...do they warp from heat
3.) how do you bend the expanded metal so crisply and sharp
4.) is the solid front fire basket it's own door? oR, do you have to install a hinged door still?
5.) what did you use to cut the end off of the tank in the picture of your first view of the inside with the first an dry rust?
IF ANY thing I may ever ask is a personal or trade secret, please just say so... This is all stuff that triggers my thinking so I can avoid the Stupid mistakes I made yesterday

1) yes
2) ?? - I think you mean the 1/4 inch gap inside the rails so it can swell with heat and still slide. If it warps it isnt enough to stop it.
3) 6 inch vise and a 32 oz. hammer
4) it will get a hinged door - still working on it
5) 4 X .045 X 5/8 zip-disc
