Cleaning metal in new build

Post by wakeboarder141 » November 22nd, 2013, 1:10 pm

I am almost done with my vertical smoker build. Do I need to do anything special with the raw steel on the inside? I know I need to season it, but do I need to do anything like cleaning contaminants off of the inside before I cook on it? Thanks!

I would give it a good wipe down and season it

Should I wipe it down with acetone or anything or just a dry rag?

Did it have any thing on it other than rust?

Nothing specific that I know of. Some of it was remnant steel so it was sitting outside, But I don't know of anything else that has been on it.

Sand it down with 36 grit and wipe it out with several moist paper towels then spray it down with pam or similar. Start a good fire and a couple pounds of bacon and you're on your way…. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
