Where do i start?

Post by ButrEd » December 4th, 2013, 2:03 pm

Hi
Before I found this site I thought I was doing pretty well building my smoker, but after reading a some posts here I am upset and thinking I need to start over. So help please!! How big of a fire box do I actually need is there some sort of formula?

Does an insulated chamber mean I need can have a smaller fire box? Warming box I assume affects the fire box size. How thick does my reverse flow plate need to be does that matter?

I am thinking about insulating cause my tank is pretty thin. Please help point me in the right directions I started this project 2 and a half years ago when I have time. I want to do It right .
Thanks.

:welcome:

Glad you found us.

This is on our index page, it will help you with as you called "formula". http://www.smokerbuilder.com/pitcalc/

As for some of your questions most of us use a 1/4 in plate some use heavier for the BP in our offset RF designs. I'm guessing that is what you are building. But see the thing is you can be very creative here, and we will try to help you along the way. If you would post the size of your tank and maybe some pics we will chime in and see if we can offer some help.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.

Welcome ButrEd! Glad you chimed in.
We'll be glad to help any way we can … including just a cheering section.

Measure, run numbers through the pit calc and post them here - with pictures.
THAT's when we can really help.

See, it's a sickness, and most of us could use a fix …. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
