Distance of grate from baffle

Post by trekinaway » December 30th, 2013, 5:08 am

Just about to start a build of a reverse flow 15" elliptical end cylinder x 50" long smoker from plans from this site. What it doesn't show is any cooking grate details. I can throw something together but was wondering if there is a minimum distance that needs to be kept between the cooking grate and the baffle plate?

I think 3 to 5" is recommended.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

Thanks guys, given the small diameter of the cooking chamber I think I will go with the 3"

Trek, I am currently building a patio smoker and my tank is 14" in diameter and I went with 3" cause any more than that I lose to much of the inside space. We will see how it goes.

3 should work just fine.

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
