gallons of paint?

Post by 1basenji » January 23rd, 2014, 10:53 pm

Getting closer to painting my 250 gal smoker. If I just put 1 coat of high temp paint using a spray gun, how much do you think I will need to buy?? 1,2,3,? gallons?? Any guesses. I might put high-temp primer on, I haven't decided. If I don't use primer, do I gain anything with putting on 2 coats of regular high-temp paint? Thanks

I haven't seen your smoker but I would be surprised if it took a gallon. I have painted full size trucks with less than a gallon. I know that the rustoleum high temp doesn't recommend using primer but I think some guys do it anyway. I would do 2 coats just to make sure that I had a thick coat on everything. jm2cw.

Yes a gallon of paint will go a long way in a paint gun.. I don't know what you smoker looks like or how big it is but I would be suprised if you use much more than a quart of paint.. unless of coarse the smoker is as big as an 18 wheeler...

I always do 3 coats of paint on all my cookers. 1 gallon will be more than enough for a 250.

awesome. i will be getting my paint this coming week. would like to paint it outdoors, but i may not be able to wait long enough for Mother Nature to let me do that. do you guys usually spray the smoker then build a fire in it to "bake" it on or just let it air dry?

Air dry at least 2 days…. at least that works with the Valspar spit-cans I use….. :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D
Current smokers: Egor (trailered RF) and Easybake (tabletop pellet drive)
