New to The Forum and Smoking!

Post by mechead11 » February 23rd, 2014, 2:20 pm

Hello Everyone!
I would consider myself a smoking virgin. I'm located in the immediate suburbs of Chicago. I love meat! I am currently building a "tee" shaped barrel smoker. A little more involved than I planned on getting. But, for a T1 I thinking its coming along nicely. A couple more steps and I should be ready to fire it up! I have never smoked anything on anything but my little baby stovetop smoker. so, needless to say, I am a little nervous to see how everything is going to work out.

Metal fabrication is something I am however pretty familiar with. I am a Sheet Metal fabricator by trade. MY next smoker will be made of 14g black iron all cut on a CAM plasma cutter. Thinking that one will take 1/4 of the time to make and look 100x better. Of course I plan on being active and perhaps coming up with a nice plan and bouncing ideas off of everyone. I would like my next endeavor to be THE smoker.

This being said, I am excited to get to know everyone and make some sweet smokers and delicious foods!

Thanks for the warm welcome, everyone!

This is pretty much where I am at currently... at this point I'm waiting on a dry run or two. BUT, The temperatures are still in the teens and we're expecting some snow this weekend? I'm ready for summer. Let me know what you think!Image

Thanks! And it sure does! It requires a little confidence to open... Still smoothing out the kinks a little.
