Chimney Question

Post by Destroyr350 » March 5th, 2014, 7:36 pm

OK, so before I go ahead and do this I would like some opinions. I am ready for my chimney. I am going to be using a 3" square tube for the chimney, I really like the way it will look over using round or anything larger.

Inner dimensions of chimney pipe;
2.75" x 2.75" = 7.56 square inches

Firebox Dimensions:
22 x 22 x 24.5 = 11858 cubic inches

Recommended Chimney Volume:
@ 5% of firebox = 592.9 cubic inches

Chimney length:
Overall 78.42"

My plan is to divide that 78.42" into 2 x 39.21" or 3 x 26.14" chimneys. Anyone see any issues with draw? I am open to suggestions.

I'm probably the minority here but I use a dual stack set up and there is no issue that I can see with draw. When those stacks are wide open I can pull a house cat through those FB vents during heat up.

If it can't be smoked .... try frying it. It that don't work, it's probably best just left alone

Haha, now thats funny.

i've seen plenty of cookers with duel stacks and long as they are designed right (the right volume and whatnot) they work just as good as a single.

How big is your smoker and stacks?

Pops is a 250 minus one end bell and 6 inches for the FB attachment. The stacks are 115% of the calculated volume per the pit calculator. I did just what you are planning and I cut the length in half. Basically I played with the diameter so that I ended up with stacks that were tall but short enough that I coud make adjustments as needed. I highly suggest or recommend some sort of baffle or adjustable cap cover for your stacks so you can fine tune the air flow after full heat up is achieved.

I am going with the idea of 3 x 30" stacks, all 3 will have a damper so I can shut them down if needed. That would be right around 110% of the recommended volume. I think going with 2 would just be too tall. Wish me luck! If it doesn't work I will be cutting some welds

:welder:

This is what I'm shooting for I think..
