Door gasket spacing

Post by Sjpatg » March 11th, 2014, 4:42 pm

Hey guys , building a BW clone and am about to start the doors and have a question . I am using 1/2 inch tadpole gasket and am not sure how much space to account for when welding on the hinges . I am thinking a 1/4 inch space would give room for the gasket to compress and still have a tight seal. Any thoughts would be helpful

i add the gasket to the door, place the door where i want it, add some additional weight to the door to compress the gasket some, then weld my hinges on, makes for a tight fit. this works well when using freezer door latches too since they are adjustable and you need to slam them to close them correctly.

:yth: I glue my gasket to the door and after the glue dries I set the door in place and snug it down with a ratchet strap and weld my hinges on.
