Vertical smoker

Post by Mike D Thailand » March 10th, 2014, 11:53 pm

Hi all, I live in Thailand and am looking to build a vertical smoker. I have found a compressed air cylinder of an old cement truck. Don't know the exact dimensions at this point but it's around 4 feet long and about the same diameter as an oil drum.
It already has legs sitting it vertically, so would be ideal with minimum work to convert into my vertical smoker. Does anyone have any ideas or drawings I could look at. Really would appreciate some help.

Mike

Welcome Mike!
Verticals are cool but they will limit how long your cuts of meat can be when you load it. Consider removing the feet and laying it down - you might prefer the size grate you'll have by doing so. Any pics and diameter dimensions? :D

And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy. :D

Hi All, Thanks for your replies and sorry not got back sooner. Had to have a cataract operation and only just got active again.
To those of you who wanted photo's I am going to the shop tomorrow and will take some and get the exact size of the tank. The reason I was looking at the vertical smoker was, I would like to smoke some fish and sausage. The vertical would give me some extra depth to hang the sausage and fish but very open to suggestions. A friend of mine living here from Texas, had the same guy build him a very nice horizontal smoker from scratch. The shop is well equipped and the owner/operator is very capable. I will try to obtain some photo's of his finished unit for reference. Thanks again everybody and sorry for the delay. :BDHorse:
