I got the fever, time to do something about it.

Post by Dragger40 » June 9th, 2014, 7:39 pm

I started this smoking thing a few years back with a Brinkman smoker and a Thanksgiving turkey, now I smoke roughly 20 turkeys come thanksgiving.
Lately I've been getting into other critters and I think I'm having fun so it's time to up the capacity on the grillestate. .. did I just make that up?

I'm in the planning/design phase of my rig and so far I have a 200 gal. boiler tank (not galvanized) two 30 gal. Air tanks and a 115 gallon diesel tank for a direct heat grill.
My plan is to mount all of this on one of two trailers that I have. I either take apart an old horse trailer I have with leaf springs or an old travel trailer with torsion axles. Either way I want to narrow my axles but I'm not sure it's possible on torsion axles.
Any thoughts on this?

I know this thread is useless without pics but I'm doing this on my phone, all my pics are on my phone and they are too large to post.

Where you at in Mid MO? I'm not sure you can narrow a torsion axle. Leave it wide and give yourself room to work.

In Ashland but I work in Columbia.
I'm really wanting to get this trailer to around 4'or 5' wide so that I'm not reaching so far over the fender

I'm thinking this for my design. The grill will pull out from the side.

You should come down to HQ the end of the month in St. James. Keep your main smoker close to the driver side and have a place for wood storage on the other. Then you'll be comfy working from the fender.

I've thought about coming to the gathering but I'm in the middle of a rotisserie car build and weekends seem to be at a premium lately but myself and a friend of mine are already talking about making it down next year.
As far as the placement of my smoker tank, I don't know why but I just have to have everything right down the middle. I think I'm slightly ocd.

Looks like a great project. Like SFF said, come on down to HQ the end of the month for the gathering.

I've done a little work to the grill lately so I thought I would mock it up for some pics.
The insulated fire box is tacked together but I haven't made the doors yet.
I made a damper so I can close off the main cc and smoke in one or both off the warmer boxes for small cooks at home.
I think it's coming together ok but that damn fire box is HEAVY!
