Still don't know what color to paint it yet, any ideas? Almost done with a stainless steel shelf that hangs off the handle on the side, and need to make a stainless steel trim ring around the thermometer. My biscuit test went pretty good, seems to be very little temp difference from top to bottom.
It currently has 6 racks but has slots for 14. Each rack is 20 x 22 so it should hold lots of food. It was still burning after 10 using only 9 pounds of charcoal, I got tired of watching it so I shut her down. It held steady at 250 all day long.
DAMN!!!! That is nice… I really like how you set that up… That is cool as hell…
I have to say with cabinet cookers I have always liked real bold bright colors… They make that cabinet pop real well…
If you can't fix it by sheer force or cursing......then it can't be fixed.....
Well I just threw the first racks of ribs in my smoker, and have a fatty going in a little. The only down side seems to that I no longer get to play with the fire the whole time I'm trying to cook.
Just finished dinner, certainly a different smoke flavor then other cookers I've used but the end product was very very good. It will fun to tinker with rubs alittle more now that i know my heat will always be same.
Dam fine build!
You're gonna love using that cooker.
I always used briquette-sized wood chunks and my theory on the smoke is that the airflow is so slow that very little wood/smoke/burn time will have a greater effect on the meat. But that and 4 dollars will get you an expensive cup of coffee.
I found on Eli that a 1" piece every couple inches in the maze was plenty to get all the smoke flavor you need. I cooked a lot of "Q" without using any wood and it came out great. Try the Kingsford hickory briquettes without any wood - I think you'll like the results.
I would suggest powder coating if you have a place nearby to do it. They offer a blended 2-color black/silver or black/gold that would pop your eyes out. Otherwise I'm with DC for paint color - bold is better…..
And on the eighth day God created barbecue …. because he DOES love us and he wants us to be happy.
