I was wondering how I was gonna get the parts of my trailer build under the tree for my come along. Then RC planted a seed and I had to make a truck crane. I had most of the material handy. Weight tested it at around 545 pounds. With a few more tweaks I think it could safely lift 700. Thanks for the idea and the input RC! Got the worm gear winch from Harbor Freight. I made a few modifications to tighten up the play it had in it, and it works great. I added a Reese receiver to an extension on the passenger rear. Everything else is removable.

RC toldme about the gantry. I've been meaning to get started but have not yet. Is it just connected to the receiver on the hitch and the two levelers? This is even better as it becomes more mobile. Might you share some of the metal specs?

It connects to the truck in two places (the normal receiver and an additional receiver I welded on that is mounted approx in a straight line down from the passenger taillight). I'll draw up a sketch for specs tomorrow. It would be difficult to type out all the details. Here are a couple pics of a tank I got today with it. Sucker was really heavy. It must be nearly full by the feel of it. I think it is a 120 gal (24" x 65"). It felt like it weighs around 600-700 pounds.

Here is a sketch with some details. If you want to chat some more about it, please send me a PM. After using it a few times, I would rather have changed the way the outrigger is mounted for ease of use. A pipe with multiple level holes to run it up and down would have been better. For now, I use a battery powered drill to run the jacks up and down. I use the drill to run the winch also.

Thanks! There are a bunch of commercial brands out there. I think that with the scrap metal I had in the shop (my wife calls it our "garage") and some help from RC, it cost around $100 out of pocket to make. If I didn't have that stuff, it might have been around $200 to make.
