Clone build

I'm looking into building a smoker similar to a backwoods clone but have a couple questions. Is 16ga hot rolled sheet thick enough? Will it work? What size square tubing do you guys recommend? Is 1x1 ok? Should I miter my corners or butt it on the ends?

If you have a decent box pan break you can actually build the thing frameless if you get creative.
