Bottle jack method

Post by stumpjumper » November 19th, 2014, 9:40 am

I have read about the bottle jack method for straightening doors. Does anybody have a video link or a description of this method.

I like the looks of this idea but I usually weld my hinges on after the top cut. Putting the door back on later seems to be quite a big task.

I think that you just need to use a couple of scrap pieces of steel tacked inside the door opening. This allows the door to rest on them while you check and or adjust the fit. Then add the flange material around the door. Once getting the ideal fit and or adding any gasket material to the flange. Then weld on the hinges. This process has worked for me on many projects, I think you will like it too.

If you are having problems with the door, consider making it a square door cooker.

Only problem is sometimes I struggle getting the seal as tight as I would like. I cold cut for the most part so not a huge problem but a little tweak once in a while would be nice. I think a bottle jack cold be the answer.

I was able to fix my door using chain and a floor jack. Put some gasket and latches on it, then call it a day!
