I like to make the stack tall enough to keep the smoke out of my eyes but short enough to get under the carport or garage door. I only drop the stack in enough to get a good bead on it , I measure the stack length as overall length of the pipe.
I have seen some people mount the stack down toward the lower grate anyone tell me why? Does it hold smoke in better. Would it cause the smoke in the top of the smoker to become stale and not circulate?
Some guys on here have done them both ways and said they didn't notice any difference. I have read a lot of discussions about this and there is no end to the debate. I have always mounted mine as high as possible and will continue to do so.
Big T told me about keeping smoke out of your eyes..... One of the most memorable components of my build and something I place a high priority on in calculating all my dimensions on a new build. I also go up high
Make no mistake, there ain't no powder in this Puff ! And... I'm not really a crazy person but I play one in real life
Finally used my smoker for the first time. Was a slight learning curve with a stick burner for me but once i got it figured out it ran good. Just took me about 8 hrs to get the hang of keepin fire goin
Can you tell me the dimensions of your fire box? I am hoping to build a 200 gallon myself, I am just trying to get an idea of what I need for material.
You can pop in the dimensions of a 200gal tank in the smokebuilder calc and it will tell you what size FB you will need. Most people try to get it over-sized 5 to 10%
I'm humble enough to know I can't do everything but, I'm stubborn enough to try to until I can!
I try to keep my FB to the same width of my CC. Your 200 and his may be different dimensions yet still both are 200's. I ran into that with my 500. SB's plans were for a different diameter 500 than what I had.
Good Luck
A 200 gallon tank would require a FB 24''x24''x30'' that would be 112% recommended size. I like to make my FB the same width as my tank so that it is a proportional size so that means the dimensions could change. You should start a thread in the question forums with some dimensions of your tank and maybe we could help get you pointed in the right direction.
