Long time no see !! I would definitely seal up the leaks on the FB and do a few test burns. I know that Frank has been manufacturing a tuning plate that was designed for the OK Joes, I think they are selling it at bbqsmokermods.com. You might take a look at it, it looks like it can be installed and removed in a few seconds.
And you can always bolt an piece of plate over the throat opening to reduce it to the right size, that way you could remove it later for some crazy reason. Oh did I say that out load??

Current Smokers: Backyard RF Offset and Hybrid RF Offset trailer rig with Cowboy cooker and fish fryer, always room for more........
Omagerd...I had no clue this site existed. I just bought the baffle plate for my Brinkmann! I was going to design it with the scraps from my smoker build, but for $75 it had holes and all!
PW, I didn't know if it was safe to put up the web site or not. I wouldn't want to get hit with DC's spam hammer
They've got some pretty cool stuff on there.
Hum could it be possible that I'm using wood that is to small smaller wood burning hotter and faster versus larger wood burning slower cooler more consistent seems if that's the case I may have stumbled across one of my problems once I put the larger wood on temp cooled down smoke thinned out might I be on the right track ???
Yeah I'm super jazzed. Added the gasket/latch kit and they even called to confirm my addy. Sweetness! Thanks again T.
As to wood, i always use the larger chunks. I still have temp control issues because its not properly sealed, and wide temp differential from left to right. The products i mentioned above will remedy that.
Well I closed my throat down to close to the pit calc size seemed to work better then went to bigger wood that seemed to help as well put gasket around fire box door waiting on convection plate hopefully it will all come together will try some ribs tomorrow hopefully I won't mess them up
