I see this is an older thread but I have a new need for 120-150 gallons tank for a smoker build. Located in northern IL so Wisconsin is also an option. Searching the interwebs I find a lot in TX and OK but none up here. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you can't find a tank, you can use a piece of pipe or build a rectangular smoker like Mack.

Driving up to Wisconsin this weekend for a family visit. I'm sure I'll have some better luck finding possible parts the further I get from Chicago.

Us Yankee BBQ guys are using these ... 1/2 thick clean steel old alcohol tanks get them in NJ / Pa area for about 100 bucks which is a great price for raw material .

dougc767, I live in WA also, so if you do find a stash of tanks, pleeze pleeze, remember to message me, as I've been craigslisting too and nothing coming up. I'll do the same for you as I continue my search. I am an absolute newbie so I need to calculate what size I'll need, but I'll look into your sizes as I read more, then order plans.

I don't think I will use round stuff anymore. Flat plate gives so much more room.

Agree rod crafter but round pipe just has that "I'm cool and awesome" verses the "new age" of the square units. Call me crazy, but I just like the look and curves of the round girls!

My 2 cents, find a pipe supplier in your area and he will generally have any size pipe you want. It'll cost more than a tank but it's generally thicker metal and won't have all the prep work of cutting off ends and sealing bungs. In my world, time is money too.

I would go square if doing it again.
But I smell what ya steppin' in DT! I like a curve especially on her bottom side!

Truth be told, I would consider a round pipe and square off the opening for a set of double swing doors on my next build. But I'm jumping off topic....and open to all options.

And I still have no leads on a tank.

DT
You have to look at FC's trailer rig.

Scary rodcrafter.....my next build is shaping up to be a trailer model. I'd love the opportunity to look at the possibilities! And if beer and meat smokin are involved, I may even jump on a plane! :grillin:

On the FB group "BBQ Classifieds" there was a post yesterday about propane tank, $200 a piece located in Robinson, TX (76706). Looks like he has 56 250 gallon tanks.
