I am new to the smoking world but I am in the middle of building myself a cedar smokehouse. I have a few questions on the design. I have an old wood stove for my fire box, my house is build of cedar. I have 4" spiral for my piping to connect the box to the smoker . I can post pictures if its needed, But I wanted to know what the recommended distance between the fire box and the smoker would be. ? Any other tips would rock too. I have two dampers for the spiral that I plan on putting a few feet from the fire box and one on the chimney out of the smoker.

Sorry too say I have not experience with this kind of smoker. Hopefully someone will come along soon with the answers to you questions.

I'm guessing this is just for cold smoking? Puff probably has ideas for you.

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

It looks like it will be interesting when finished. Down here in Florida it never would be a cold smoker.

Good luck!

I made a fire box for something similar...only a fuzz more redneck for a friend of mine. ;) It was only a couple feet from the box - we made a thimble out of some old air cleaner covers for the pipe. It worked good...even in WI.
