bp to cc opening

Post by jfish63 » January 3rd, 2016, 8:54 am

I have been reading posts on the size of the opening at the end of the bp into the cc. It looks like the one dimension that is not covered by the calculators and a lot of opinions on the size. Some people say it should be at least as big as the fb to cc opening others say 25% smaller. Is there a consensus on it or is it an adjustment made to your smoker after playing around for a while. Hope Im not :BDHorse:

The rule of thumb is the same as the throat. Some say the velocity of the hot air is increased by a smaller opening. Personally I have made both my RF smokers with an adjustable BP opening. The main thing is don't make it larger than the throat.

My advice is to size it the same as the throat and experiment from there. That's what I'm doing now...

It'd be nice to nail this down with real world numbers. Any takers?

I just double checked the plans I bought here for the 62 x 30 reverse flow and it has a 3in gap which is about 75% of my fb opening of 127sq in from the calculator
