First fire.

Post by bairboy » March 3rd, 2016, 10:52 pm

Still working on the other stuff on the trailer, But my smoker is complete. I checked the temperature all over the bottom rack. I checked the top rack temperature. Of course the temp is higher on the top rack heat rises. Is there something people have done to reduce some heat on the top to make it closer to the bottom? I'm curious about if you throw meat on the top will I just have to accommodate for temp differ and pull some meat out sooner? Does this make sense? I am to much of a perfectionist I put a shadow plate in this build without a test from before. I ended up adding one on my last. My temp now from left to right has not gotten greater than 5 degrees difference. Awesome. I wanna post pics I just haven't figured that out yet.

There was a guy on here that added a ''wing'' just above the BP gap that deflected the heat across the lower rack instead of going straight up. He said it really helped with the temperature difference but I don't have any personal experience with his design.

If this worked it will show my entire built to date. The trailer is a multi purpose it will hold a propane grill/breakfast grittle, charcoal weber my opinion best for grilling corn, most important! My stick burner I live on 400 acre orchard so it make sense to use wood then I don't have to buy charcoal, I will be able to hold wood, and table perpetration space. Excited to finish. I'll post more later if people care. First cook will be Saturday.

Live to BBQ!!!

Hey Big-T

How is your smoker? As far as cook on the top rack?

My top rack is hotter than the bottom (heat rises, go figure) but side to side is pretty even. I have thought about adding a ''wing'' over my BP gap but I've never got around to it.
