CC door over (vertical) middle?

Post by ABBOV » March 4th, 2016, 6:26 am

Hello fellow builders,

Would like to make a decision on the door in my CC.
In most models, you can see the grates (and doors) until the vertical middle of the tank, sometimes you see a lower grate. and therefore the door lower then the vertical middle. (see photo)

It seems a great way to add an extra grate, are there strong objections in construction? Why do you see this not more often?

Thanks in advance for your reactions.
Best Regards,

On first glance...I don't see the firebox or chimney location on this cooker so I wonder where the heat source is. The warming cabinet is low too leading me to think that this is a gas fired cooker.

I would think that a grate that much below centerline of the tank would reduce the baffle plate height and width. Radiant heat from it would be reduced and I wonder if it would allow enough room for an adaquately sized throat.

Thanks! That's just the type of feedback i'm looking for, didn't even think about the baffle plate.
