First big build 266 gallon oval RF

Post by Bellerose1481 » April 22nd, 2016, 6:54 pm

Ok so let me preface by saying I've been looking around these forums and not really seeing the answers I want, and I'm sure they exist, so before I get flamed out hear me out. I've done a few calculations and from what I've seen its not totally clicking, mind you math was not my strong suit. So here it is I'm building a RF volume in gal is 266.5, from what I've seen people seem to be using a FB that is a 24" cube so that's what I went with on the calculator, using a 4" exhaust and 4" inlets it seems that 24"cube is undersized? So what am I missing, or am I finding incorrect info as to what people are using. Oh and yes I know in the posted calc pic it has a height of 26" I was just messing with it

It looks like a 28'' cubed FB would put you at 107% of the recommended size which is about where I build mine. I'll try to post a picture of the specs that I ran through the pit calculator.

The screen shot didn't work out. I'm not sure who's using a 24'' FB on a pit that size but it's too small to perform correctly. I like to keep my FB in the 105%-115% max , I would use a larger diameter pipe for the stack or use twin stacks. I like to keep my stack tall enough to keep the smoke out of my eyes but short enough to clear a garage door. The larger the diameter the shorter the required length is. What kind of tank are you using? I ask because your FB doesn't have to be square as long as it's the correct volume, it can be rectangular if that's what you need to fit you tank. If you can't find the answers that you need in the forum, feel free to ask and we'll do our best to help you.

:yth:

266 gal is an odd size. What kind of tank is it? What are the actual dimensions?

Thanks guys, pretty much my thoughts on the FB size, and since the exhaust is calling for nearly 60" that is much taller than I'm comfortable with so I had planned to use two 4"x30" stacks since I can get 4"x 10' pipe from my work for free. I also thought 266.5 was an odd size but that's what I got from the calculator.

Yea, those oil tanks are considered 275 gal tanks but the math doesn't lie. I even double checked it when I wrote it and other tank calcs agree.

2 4" stacks will work fine.

Yeah Pete I had always called them 275 gal tanks but in the name of accuracy decided to call it what it is. Now for the two stacks I'm assuming actual location is mostly user preference as far as spacing between each stack, I'm planning on placing them either at or just below the bottom rack about 8" above the FB and RF plate and was considering spacing them out but not sure exactly how much

How many racks are you planning? Are you going to frame out the doors?

I'm planning on doing 3 full length racks, with split doors and was planning to weld flat bar/square tube around the doors and use the flat gasket from the site.
