I got my delivery of temp gauges and a pair of Bear Claws today!, the parcel had been opened by customs, as the X-ray picked up what looked to be undesireable looking items in the box!.
Anyhow back to work, over the weekend I got a few things done, other than fixing the wood fire chimney and mucking out the chook house, both fun jobs, I don`t think!
I put a spring in the chimney dampner shaft,

Image

finished up welding the baffle plates in,

Image

Made the handle for the cooking chamber door, I went for the plain look, thought they matched the hinge this way!

Image

got a start on the work area`s, with a fold down side, I`m thinking of using some aluminium expanded wesh for the tops!, or do you think wood would be a
more servicable surface?

Image

Image

Image

also got a start on the fire box door handle, I kind of left this item alone for awhile as I didn`t really know how I wanted to doit!
I drew a rough plan of it on the workbench and went from there!, you might be able to see it in the pic of the handle. Welding picks sure come in handy!

Image

no work on the smoker this arvo!, had to mow the yard again! ~x( ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,beer oclock now tho!!

The horseshoe flames are the BOMB !!!! I love um. If ya dont mind I might like to try my hand at making a set or two the next time I come across some shoes.

I am starting to notice that as all builds go, you seem to be gaining weight (the smoker that is) So you probably better not clutter the bottom shelf, as it may be needed for a space to mount the small motor needed to move it when your finished.

Thats awesome....tell um it keeps it from rolling down the hill.

My current smoker has a round plate welded to threads for an air intake adjustment. I got tierd of adjusting it by hand so I welded a 1/4 inch pipe nipple to it and then threaded an old female quick connect for air lines to it.

Makes real nice to crank it open and close.

EVERYONE ask if thats how I get air to the fire.

I had a go at cutting some 225mm steelpipe for wheels on the weekend, it appears my GMC drop saw, cuts in more than one direction at once!.
so it looks like the old 9" angle grinder will have to come into play, if that doesn`t work!, it will be off too a mates place with a slab of beer, and get him to cut it for me!
I might have to start on the grinding and clean up some of the welds soon, do the BP welds need to be smooth?.

got a little bit more done on the weekend, I don`t know If I want to paint it now!, the way it looks has grown on me.
the grate runners took some doing for some reason :BDHorse: , but I got er done

Image

changed the stoppers for the damper handle and added a bar to make it look a bit better,

Image

Image

the handle for the fire box is almost done, just needs some welds and some griding,
also added some angle iron pieces to the fire box, mainly for the affect! :welder:

Image

so on Sunday night I gave it another burn, with some pallet timber, it got to over 550*f and I took the gauge off just in case I killed it!

Image

a mate said he has some expanded mesh I could have, the holes look a bit large but hey! free is the word here!, have also decided to change the wheels
another mate down the pub said he would cut me some 300mm steel tube for wheels, I said I need four!.
The way it is not! balanced out I think I need to do the wheels " Radio Flyer" style with a pull handle and steerer
last Friday was a good night!, got the wheels and I won the fishing clubs meat raffle! bonus!!!

Image

had one on saturday night for tea! :D

lookin sharp Mac! I like the angle iron for the "affect" :kewl:
You know alot of great things come from or happen because of a "mate" down at the pub ;) .
And free meat to top it off! Good weekend, I say! :needfood:

BBQ is just smoke and beers!
Usually more beers than smoke.
