Welcome
You've come to the right place for answers to your questions. I'm sure on of the pro's will chime in soon
Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.
Whether you think that you can, or that you can't, you are usually right. Henry Ford
you can also look at the plans from our sister site if you would like to get some ideas that way. I'm not trying to sell you plans, but there is some good reasons for getting them. 1. They are tried and true, so you already know they work right. 2. The small fee they charge you for them keeps this site going. and like that
We would be glad to help you develop your own too!
Current Smokers: Backyard RF Offset and Hybrid RF Offset trailer rig with Cowboy cooker and fish fryer, always room for more........
Also thank you Rodcrafter for the recommendation on the plans. That was actually how I found your forums, it's when I stumbled across the smoker plans site. I was thinking about the exact same thing, one thing I've learned after a lot of lost time and expense,it is to look at proven ideas, ask questions, and always use the resources available that have way more experience. I saw a picture of a "Santa Maria Style BBQ" with a lid for the grill and offset smoker, which I really thought was great, so I think if I get the SM style basic plans, I figure I can add/adapt to them with the offset smoker and lid idea and then after showing the group my ideas, I'll start getting after it. It's going to be fun.

Welcome to the forum RJ. I'm new here also but I've been following these guys for years and have bought a couple of sets of plans from Smokerplans.net and won't build another smoker without the aid of them. They are invaluable when you think of the time (and $$) it takes to do things over twice (or in my case 3 times usually lol).
