I cut some circles out of 3/4 inch insulation foam and sandwiched it between some 1/4 inch plywood. I sanded it all down smooth and threw some paint on and now my "Q" Train has some wheels.

They are riding on galvanized hat channel attched to oak ties screwed to the bottom frame.

I want to appologize for not finnishing this post yesterday.:jocomp: :jocomp2: I had some issues with my laptop. Photobucket would not cooperate.

Looks like I'm back now so here goes:

I screwed some scraps of hat channel together and added more paint for the cowcatcher.

Here are some pics of her in action at "Bliss, Brews and Cue". That was a KCBS sanctioned comp at Fort Bliss Texas on 10/07 & 10/08. Since that is about 3 miles from my backyard, I decided to enter the Backyard category.

We fired her up around 10 PM.

You might notice that I'm using a flame thrower to get her started.
I usually like to start a chimney of coal on a propane burner & then dump it in the fire basket and throw a log or 2 on top. But some idiot (me) forgot to bring the charcoal :oopssign: ,

I am 100% pleased with her performance.

I put 2 briskets in the horizontal cooking chamber around 11PM. She purred along between 250 & 275 for the next 13 hours with only minimal adjustments to the air intake.

At around 6 AM I opened the damper between the horizontal and vertical chambers all the way. I closed the stack on the horizontal and opened the stack on the veritical. I opened the damper between the fire box and the vertical the way
Within 5 minutes, the vert was up to 275. The temp in the horizontal stayed steady throughout this process

I threw 6 slabs of ST. Louis cut Spares in the vert and kept the temp steady by adjusting the FB/Vert damper. Once I found the sweet spot, I didn't have to mess with that damper.
For the next six hours, all I had to do was add wood and tweak the air intake slightly.

That's what we like to hear. Nothing better than building a smoker and it performing just like you expected it to.

Looks like she's a keeper.

I didn't get a whole lot of pics because things got really hectic as we got closer to turn in time.
This comp stuff is a lot of work for a team. I dont know how Solo does it, my hat is off to him.
I had my brother helping me and by the time it was all over, we were both wore plum out.

You're right Big T it sure was a lot of work but also a lot of fun. We finished 13th in ribs and 14th in brisket out of 19 teams. No money but I accomplished my goal of not finishing dead ass last.
