Pics are not in order had a struggle with pics again but figured it out. Burned the smoker out the other day and did a test with propane last night. It was about 2 degree out. The smoker got to about 200 on my meat thermometer. Need to buy some good temp gauges and install in the doors. What's everyone's like for gauges? The propane vavle was open all the way to get these temps. I will need to experiment with the damper to hold heat and wait till summer to get more accurate readings. I'm hoping that I won't have to switch to a smaller head . Want to keep it safe. Thanks Luke
So I'm having problems with my propane burner burning in the mixing chamber near the jet. By burner is from a hot water heater back in the day and converted to a fish house heater. I can't get it to work safely. So I'm considering either ordering a new p email from King cooker, or cutting my FB off and building it for wood. How critical is the baffle plate height as I all ready have mine welded in??? My cc is 20x55. My bp is 13" wide and 2" off the bottom with no dam
I'm not an expert on gas burners in smokers. I do have some experience though, when I made my larger smoker I put a burner in it. I learned that the burner needs more oxygen than is found in a confined space. It will burn the oxygen up quicker than can be drawn in through the mixer.

Rodcrafter I pulled the burner out tonight and did a test in the garage on the open floor and same problem. I ordered a new one on Amazon. If that doesn't work I need advice for plan b. That is what is welded in place all ready. That's where I'm concerned if my gap is big enough or doesn't matter that much. I had a good plan and don't want to quit till it prozes me wrong but still need a back up plan. Thanks Luke
So I'm back to the drawing board, I put a new king kooker 6" burner in my rig and worked safely but can not get my temps. Max I could get was 150. So I'm thinking about cutting my FB off and using the calculator size. Next problem is my baffle plate is welded in and not to size to calcs. Is the baffle plate to FB size a huge deal or is it a major thing for correct flow??? Thanks Luke
I bet you are asking about the opening from the FB to CC "throat" sorry to be the guy, but yes it does matter. I know it's not what you want to hear but if you build it to the calculator specs you will really enjoy it for a very long time and not have to fight it each time you use it.

That's what I meant rodcrafter. Still learning the terms. Well I'll push this plan to the side for now and start searching for parts to build to the calculator. Thanks for the help people. Luke
This topic really interests me. I was hoping you could get it to work. I've seen some big name smoker companies use a propane assist or straight burners in their rigs. I've toyed around a little with an assist but never followed thru. For what you have into it run thru every option.
