Thanks temurf.

Anyone know where I can get that Rockwool insulation without having to buy the $110 pack? I only need about 24x24 of it for in between the firebox and warming chamber.

Where are you located? I got mine from a guy that makes crematory and boilers and such. He just gave me enough to do mine.

Is 1/2 steel too thick for the baffle plate? I hit the scrap yard today and think I can find everything I need for the build there at a fraction of the cost of the steel distributor.

1/2 works. Once it makes temp it will hold nice thru the open and close cycles of the door.

I'll look for thinner then. They have every size imaginable out there. I just saw one that was already 27" x 60" so I could pull it without much effort.

I always have to draw everything out to scale before I build it. Just helps me wrap my head around where everything is going to go and the proportions of everything. Here's the initial concept.

I'm in the same boat - it helps a ton to have it drawn out first.

Picked this bad boy up today to replace my small hobby grade torch. Be getting more done on the smoker build after I get my truck fixed later this week.

Nice O&A rig. More then plenty for planned build. If your running big bottles you can even get a nice little rosebud for it.

thanks guys. I've needed to upgrade for awhile so I'm glad to have it. Bought grade t hose and a propane cutting tip as well so I can lug it to the scrap yard a little easier as well.

I'll let ya know how it goes. From what I've seen and read it just has a longer preheat time but it seems like there's less slag on the back side of the cut.

Nice Oxy-Accet Rig. It's nice to be able to justify new toys when you're building a smoker.
I got a new Mig machine, a finger brake and a couple of small angle grinders. All because "I'm struggling without good kit". :D
Even the "controller of finances" did'nt splutter too much.

I'm sure you will enjoy the upgrade from hobby torch.

There's rarely a project I do that I don't buy a new tool lol. That must be why I have so many tools and so many unfinished projects!

I got to take a break from the UDS build and run to the scrap yard for some plate for my fire box. $40 later and I had all the plate I needed for my fire box. I got lucky and the scale that weighed me going in they couldn't find that weight so I got a guy that came out and just said call it $40. I know I had 400 lbs of plate and a 4 inch sch 40 pipe 6 feet long also. At .25 a pound I got lucky. Better lucky than good any day. Anyways got to put the new torch to use which worked awesome. Here's where I got to today. Everything is just tacked heavy until everything is in place and held square. I'll rod weld it from there.
