winebarrel offset

Post by Langer » January 18th, 2017, 6:55 am

Hi all.
Just curious if anyone's tried this. Found a few pics of vertical wine barrel smokers with a steel fire box below. But has anyone done a horizontal one. If so how well does it work. Will that last or not even worth looking at. The idea sounds and looks good if done properly. Pic added for basic concept

Are these cold smokers?

If it's tourist season, how come I can't shoot 'em?

I've seen plenty of cold wine barrel smokers. But I'm thinking how would they go as a horizontal offset with s firebox

I know Puff made a cold smoker out of one of those. I think it would work out except for where the heat hits the wood coming from the FB. I don't know how well it will hold temperature in the CC. Seems like it would only cook from the ambient temperature created from the draft. As it wouldn't have a additional help from the radiant heat of the steel.

Making memories!

I was thinking along the same lines. You'd have to connect firebox to barrel with maybe stainless steel pipe top prevent it catching fire, and as for radiant heat, maybe that's why I've only found vertical ones since heat rises itd stay hot, as vid attached above. I really like the look and idea though
