1/2 inch thick 555 gallon tank- Opinions

Post by 308fan » February 9th, 2017, 2:19 am

Hello everyone. I am a first time poster here. I have a 555 gallon propane tank that is 1/2 inch thick. I was wondering what the popular opinion is about this. Do you think that is to thick for a trailer mounted reverse flow? Weight is not a concern, just function. Should I find a thinner tank to build up? Are there any advantages to using such a thick tank?
Thanks in advance for your input!

:welcome:

Should keep the heat in very nicely. :D

555 gal tank would be huge. Might need to knock a bit off it and use the leftover as a firebox.

If you do go ahead with it I will be looking at the build out of curiosity.

As long as you have the tools and lifting capability it's doable. It'll take longer to heat up but will hold it longer. You'll have to counterweight the doors or use a cable system.

Or square the front and go cabinet style.
Just a note, I know you said weight isn't an option, I built a RF from a 500. RF w/ WB 5,760#.

Welcome to the crew!

That is one fine rig right there. FC

If I were to recommend a method of using that tank, this is so the way I would say go. It does take a little longer to get fully heated up, but you can open the doors and not have to hurry and get them shut again because the temp will hardly vary once heated.

Thanks for the input everyone! I really like the square front that Forty_Creek has. I am thinking I will start working on this by summer time. I have lots of projects to finish up. :biggrillin:
