Today I did a bunch of work on my CC. I got the paint heated up enough so that it is easily removed with some light power buffing. Also got the butterfly opening cut in to the FB door and all cleaned up. Works like a darn. Now I need to tackle my charcoal basket and get that out of the way so I can finish the door and fire box.

Had a good couple days on my build. Here you can see what the fire brick lining will look like. It's just sitting in there for a trial. My question is what to use to glue it in place. Do I need some kind of cement or can I use high temp RTV?

I would try using refractory cement, I don't think RTV will be strong enough. I haven't personally used the stuff but my neighbor used it to build an outdoor fireplace a couple of years ago.

I don't know that refractory would hold it on a trailer rig. You may want to consider welding tabs in to hold them in place.

I agree, I think a mechanical type fastener is going to provide a better long term solution.

I'm not sure refractory cement is up to lots of movement etc I think some form of mechanical holding is needed. Maybe even just an expanded metal cage.

I didn't realize it was a trailer rig, I thought it was a patio cooker. I agree that a mechanical faster would be the best method.

Thanks to all for the comments. My initial design intention was for this to be a patio only rig. It will not become a trailer rig in the truest sense however it will see some travel. I have this small aluminum trailer that I use to haul my golf cart around that will work also for the smoker. It will be easy enough to build metal clips that secure the bricks in place so that's what I'll do. Here are more photos of recent progress. Thanks again.....

If that was my FB I would reconsider the top of the slider. I would only put a short piece on top just to keep it from tilting when I pull it out. I say that because when new it will slide very nice, after you use it ash and flexing of steel will try to lock it up. I've been using sliding baskets for a while I don't make thing too tight and I'm glad.

Today I got my fire box welded out. Then laid out the throat opening cut in the cook chamber. The fit was better than I expected. Should make welding easy.

Yeah I thought of that but won't be able to change it now as I welded the top on the FB. If the slides give me trouble down the road I'll just grind the edges of the angle iron thinner.

Looking good. You are doing a fine job on that smoker.
