What temp can you get your pit up to

What temp can you get your pit up to

Heya all.

Just curious about how high can you get your pit on the fire box side of your cooking chamber of you take your tuning plates out. Just wondering outta interest. For the odd hot an fast cook

If I took my tuning plates out I would still have a 12" shadow plate jut above the throat but I feel sure I could get flames to just touch the end of it. So I would say about 500*

I have no tuning plates or deflector above my throats opening. My first Smoke, I saw temps at the FB hitting 415ish. That was one chimney of coals and 2 quarter log splits. Lost a few otherwise tasty wings to that inferno. Lessons learned.
