Looking very good. You must be proud. Almost time for Q-view. After all you have to run it to make sure it works before the paint goes on... :D

So when I go to paint this do I paint the underside of my flanges? I'm going to put a gasket and didn't know if that would affect the gasket from sticking.

Also I read that to season it you spray cooking oil on the inside of the tank. Is that correct?

Do you do it on the outside as well? Thx

I don't paint the under side of the flange, only the outside of the cooker. I spray the inside of the CC with a thin coat of cooking oil and run it hot 350-400 degrees for a couple of hours and then back it down to 250 or so for a while, you can throw some fatty meat on the grill if you want to but it isn't necessary. Don't spray any oil on the outside of the CC. Did you allow for a gasket when you installed your hinges ? If you didn't it may cause the door to not close properly.

:yth: I didn't paint the gasket surfaces either & I just sprayed oil on the inside only & seasoned like Big T. :kewl:

Thanks guys. Big T I put the top flange on the inside of the cc. I don't know what adjustment I would have needed to make. Hopefully that gives me enough room.

Frank had a good idea for the correct amount of spacing, he said use a shim that it half the thickness of the gasket material. That has been good for me.

So this weekend is raining so paint will be delayed. I did get a quote for powder coating for under $100. Any thoughts on that? The guy said they cure it at 400 degrees and can withstand 600 degrees. Do you think the powdering coating would hold up? Anyone have experience with this on their smoker. Thanks.

Finally finished. Thanks for all the help from everybody on here. The advice was extremely helpful. Not sure I could have done it without the advice. I ended up painting with the rustoleum high heat paint so hopefully that holds up. Propane was added just to assist with lighting the coals. I am ready to start smoking. Q-View coming tonight. :biggrillin:

It's officially a smoker. :) And its cooking even and holding the temperature well.

And for the Q-view. Here you go. Already tasted the chicken and it was fantastic. Ribs have another hour or so left.

Thanks again for the advice along the way.
