I'd say the throats is a tad narrow but as far as the dam I'd use a piece of 11/2 or2" in between the drain and throat. Should work just fine.

You are correct on the size range of the BP gap, as far as an easy way to get it right goes, I'm not sure there is one. The curvature of the tank makes it hard to get it right. I normally shoot for the same size as the Throat and if it's really a little smaller it doesn't hurt anything.

Thanks for the help guys.

The good news is I still have the ability to make the opening bigger. I am going to do my best to get the present size (area) so I can make the best decision.

As far as the dam I can make it taller just have to buy more material.

Thanks I did try that but using the calculator it tells me the present area is over the desired area so either I'm not using it correctly or the calculator doesn't apply here because of the non standard shape of the tank head. Just by my eye ball the BP throat opening looks to be the right size. I will just leave it as is. If after the first few burns it doesn't operate well I could still cut the opening larger.

Thanks to all for the great support!

So today I got the supports for the axle and wheels welded in place on the FB. Bummer though my last piece of bar for the axle is too short so off to the supplier I go. Now that I have this done I can marry the FB to the CC.

Big event today I got the wheels and axle set up on the FB completed and the CC welded to the FB. I'm very pleased with how the height worked out but I am a little worried about where I placed the wheels. The darn CC is so light the FB far out weighs the CC. I'm hoping its okay as I still have to put in the CC lid, BP, cooking racks, chimney and the structure for the other set of castors.

:yth: You could add a shelf/handle on the end of the CC as a counterweight if it starts trying to pop up. The other option is to move the rear axle back.

Thanks temurf

Big t I do plan on putting a handle on the end but not a shelf. I will wait and see where things land after the other items are added to the CC. If I do have to move the position of the axle I will but that will be a last resort.

So good progress on my build today I got the BP fit and welded in. Added the grease dam and cut the throat bigger. Now I'm pretty sure the throat is at least the size of the throat between the FB and CC. The bad news I experienced significant distortion at the front lower sealing edge of the CC.

I'm going to have to perform some metal magic to get this back to straight.

That's one of the drawbacks of working with thin metal but it can be straightened out.

Got it straight and added a piece of 1" x 1/8" flat bar to keep it straight.

Definitely taking shape now. Looking good.
