This is only a little unit so I'm only going to have about 2-3" above the BP to CG & maybe 1/2-1" from the FB to BP. Looks like I answered my own question about making the doors taller as the BP will only be about an inch or two below the bottom of the doors. :kewl:
You've read my mind Squiggle.
Mines good for backyard stuff, maybe 50-75 people, but lately I've been cooking for 100-150 people.
Puts quite the strain on the grill AND me!
Also, I've recently found an investor who will help me buy a concession trailer(I'll start a thread on that shortly),so I'll definitely need a bigger grill,so I've decided on a double pan gravity feed/Stumps XL clone with 8 racks.
That thread should start in the next month or so.Damn I can't wait!!!

So I extended the door section up 2" & a little bit back today & it's much better. Next for the BP & the doors(not looking forward to the latch, lol). :kewl:

My RF build

Post by TheCapps » April 2nd, 2017, 5:16 am

Cool little build, I think I see one similar in my future. After I make my monster RF I'll probably want something smaller to make small portions for home. Instead of firing off the big one. I saw a small stainless tank at the scrap yard one day I should have snatched it up for something like this. I'm sure it's gone by now though.

This one is an old 25gal LPG tank for a car, you should be able to pick one up at any scrap yard for a few bucks. :kewl:

It's looking good Squiggle! CRS built one similar to this and he used an inexpensive latch on it. Here's a link
viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4235 or if you want to build a simple latch you could search the RF forum for a build by Tuscaloosa Q called squared off doors with pics.

Excellent use of the grinder there Squiggle...
Once painted you'd never know it was extended... :D

Taking on the aura of a very interesting build. as all your builds do... keep going. :-bd

That's what I'm hoping dude & thanks, I like to do things with a bit of a twist & that, Big T, is why I want to do the "Mack" style doors & latch. :D

Today I cut out the throat & started making the FB, I also picked up the fire bricks. :kewl:

Had some time in the shed today & I got the FB done(except the door) & cut the firebricks to fit

I also got the intakes done

I test fitted the FB & everything slotted in nicely, I'll take another pic tomorrow to show everyone how I've done the illusive shadow plate. :kewl:

How well do the firebricks hold up? I was considering that for mine.

Great little patio model.

Looking good Jay. Very schmick in fact. How are you going to fix the firebricks into the FB?

I can honestly say I don't know, I haven't used them for this purpose before, but I got the idea off Tim Brann's build so maybe he might know.

This is his build thread. :D

You'll have to wait & see AJ, but basically I'll be using RTF to stop any movement & then angle to lock it all in. :kewl:

Ok, so I hope this helps all the guys out there who don't understand the shadow plate. This is how I have done it in my new RF. It extends into the CC & the BP is going to be about 2" above it. It will be welded to the sides of the CC, just like the BP. :kewl:
