So I fixed the opening from the FB to the CD. I really hope it makes the difference in temp control cause it was a pain in the neck [emoji6].

It should make a huge difference. What did the pit calculator recommend for the throat ?

So i have been looking at the gravity feed units. They run off of the ability to lock down the firebox and regulate the air very precisely. From what I have read on the forums the best way to treat a RF is to light a couple chimneys and then throw a few logs on it. Since my FB is insulated and I can really regulate my Air flow, what is keeping me from starting a chimney and then throwing a few bags of coal and several pieces of wood on and then regulating it like a gravity feed using starve the fire of air method to keep it from turning into an inferno?

Sounds like a good idea BUT...your smoke wouldn't be the often sought after but sometimes elusive thin blue smoke we're all yearning for.

Also I believe it works better with lit charcoal on top of the pile like a UDS controlling the air to keep the temperature right.

That sounds like a plan to me. I just watched this video and I think it might be the ticket. Cant wait to play with it this weekend. Will post pictures.

It has begun. Easily reached temp with a half a bag lite in starter. Larger fb to cc opening defiantly makes for a better temp transfer.Image

Note to self. Artificial casing does not take the slow cook as well as real casings.

Definitely doing what it's supposed to. Very happy with the results so far. Wife just tried the sausage and can't believe it's the same kind she had before.
