I got some more time in the shed today.

I fitted the FB

Image

Made & fitted the BP

& started fitting the firebricks & FB door frame.

In this pic you can see by the burnt paint where I welded the shadow plate below the BP. :kewl:

Definitely getting there. Good attention to detail. Yep you build good shit... :-bd

Thanks guys, it means a lot coming from all of you. :kewl:

Got a question though, what's everyone's thought on needing a seal on the FB door? My thoughts are I need to seal it, but I've looked at most other builds & only a small percentage actually do (well, from what I can in their pics) even "Mack" doesn't seem to have a door seal on the FB. :?

I think it doesn't need one if it has a fairly good fit. Mine doesn't have one but I'm considering adding it so I can slow things down if needed. If I have good seasoned oak or hickory right now I can close off my dampers and I can't get the temps to drop.

Yeah, I was always thinking it needed to have a seal as most of my Q-ing experience is with my GF & it's imperative for those units, but when I looked at other builds I only saw a couple that had. I think you've just made my mind up with your experiences, sealed it is. :kewl:

Haha Squiggle, you were always heading in that direction you just needed confirmation... :D

Yeah you're right, looking back at the post I think it was more a question as to why people didn't. You know as much as I do on how important a good seal on the door is with your DP GF, so I thought it was a given & couldn't understand why I rarely saw any. :kewl:

I wouldn't expect anything less dude, I actually use the acronym WWRCD when I have a decision to make about the build. :D

Did a little more work on the smoker yesterday, got the FB door finished with the fire brick retaining brackets that doubles as the seal face.

I had a really productive day today, so good I ran out of material, looks like I'm off to the metal shop this week. :kewl:

I made the legs & some of the shelf frame

Image

Fitted the stack

Image

Made the door frame & shelf rails

Image

Fitted the FB latch

Image

& did a test fit of the wheels under the FB

Image

All I have to do now is make the cooking shelf, finish the wood shelf, fit the wheels, make the fire basket, make the rails for the fire basket, make a handle to move it around, make the CC doors & latch mechanism, then there's the bits & pieces like thermos, holders & hooks, etc, then I can paint it & fire it up! Not long now! :exp:

It won't be long now! Are you going with one rack in the CC or are you going to add a second rack ?

Just the one is the plan, although now you mention it two might be good for ribs or snags. :kewl:

You have plenty of room for another rack. How do you like the way we spend your money and time?
