How much of a gap should there be between the firebox and the door? I'm putting a .25 by 2 inch piece over the gap for a seal.Image

General rule of thumb is 1/2 the thickness of the gasket.

I'm asking about the edge to edge. I don't want the steel to expand with the heat and the door to get stuck shut. 3/16 good?

Ahhh, now I get it. I would think your in the ballpark with 3/16, I definitely wouldn't be any less than that.

The door for the firebox is just about ready to get the hinges welded on. Cleaned up the door flange welds today. ImageImageImage

Looks very nice indeed.

Thanks guys. Tonight I'm reinforcing the back of the door to prevent warping and mounting the hinges. I'll post more pics later.

What brand self stick gasket is the best? Any difference between the white and grey 1/2 by 1/8 from lavalock? Also, recommendations on paint. Best rattle can. Thanks for all the help guys.

Very nice dude, that door is a work of art! :kewl:

I've used both & I've found there isn't much difference.

Firebox is almost done. Still have to build the basket and install the angle iron slides. How much of a space should there be between the bottom of the firebox and the bottom of the basket?ImageImageImage

I'm doing 2" on mine cause I'm probably going to have a removable ash pan, but usually about an inch or two is good enough. :kewl:

The door looks freakin sweet dude!

Sweet door looks like it belongs on a safe.

Let us know how the upper air inlet works out for you. We had some stuff about this some time ago, but I never have done it myself.

just curious.

I made a 2" ash pan so i allow 4" from the bottom to the bottom of the Fire Basket on my trailer rig but my back yard rig is 1" pan and 3" from the bottom to bottom
