So I got the firebox door seal. It's the lavalock 5/8 X 1/8 by 7 feet long. Braided fiberglass self-stick. Looks super cheesy. Anyone else use this stuff with any luck or maybe suggest something better. I left 1/16 plus gap for a 1/8 gasket. Thanks in advance

That firebox and ashpan are a work of art. Very nice work indeed. Extra :points: for shine.

Quick question. I'm welding in a 1 1/2 X 1/4 angle from the edge of the door opening to the back wall of the firebox to hold a charcoal basket. Do I have to worry about expansion of the angle pushing the door opening out? I could make the rear "float"

I wasn't sure so I pinned the back. Left about an 1/8 inch movement front to back. It turned out pretty good.

Ok I have a slight problem. Last night I cut the cook chamber door out. I cut each side all the way through and the top and bottom cut still attached with slag from the plasma cutter, hoping that it would retain it's shape. I had to cut all the way through on the top and bottom about 3 inches in from the corners. I was planning on attaching the side 1/4 by 2 door seals before finishing up the horizontal cuts. Well, the door didn't retain it's shape. The corners lifted and the center is lower. It's enough that it's not going to seal. So now what? I knew I should of paid the extra money to have the cylinder maker re-roll the pipe after welding it together. Can this be fixed?
