Hello everybody. My name is Billy and I like to BBQ.....I'm a firefighter and amateur BBQ'r and I am about to embark on my first build. I recently got into competing and even won reserve grand champion a few weeks ago. Currently using a meadow Creek and a Lang, so you can rest assured that I will be building a RF. Anyway just wanted to say hello and I can't wait to get started, get schooled, and get BBQing.

Welcome! I might need some measurements off that lang of yours. I'm building a RF based off of a lang, which is difficult having never seen one in person

Thanks dude! I need about 5 or 6 measurements. First, what size Lang do you own? How far is the firebox inset into the cook chamber? What is the gap at the end of the cook chamber and end of the reverse flow plate? How close is the top of the bottom grate to the reverse flow plate? Length of smoke stack? In the firebox, how tall is the center of the cutout between the firebox and cook chamber, half moon shape? I noticed from pics that the cutout doesn't go all the way to the top of the firebox. What's that measurement? Lastly, from pics I've seen, there appears to be a secondary plate under the reverse flow plate right next to the firebox. How deep is that plate?

Well sorry I dropped off the face of the earth there. A lot of life happened and I never got started building my reverse flow. I am back though and can get those measurements if you still need them.....a year later. I competed again and placed first in ribs and second on chicken a few weeks ago.....brisket killed me in ninth.

Now that things settled a little I am hoping to build a GF mini to start. I have a few guys at the fire station who want me to build them one and are willing to pay. I know several of you guys are in the bbq biz so looking for some tips or advice on building smokers for others/profit?

Charge more than it costs you...

Seriously, go two thirds to double what the material and consumables cost you. Mainly as you probably won't be able to charge an hourly rate.

That seems to work for me. I add stuff like on site smoker, pit master hourly, fuel on site. Over 20 miles I charge per mile.
