door flanges

I've looked for this topic maybe I missed it but I have ...to me an obvious question about the curved door flanges on cc. I'm helping my son weld up some offsetts and were about to start mine. Were getting both sides of the arced flanges decent (staying snug against the cc) when door is closed.

BUT....how, or what technique are the name pit smokers (not going to mention names) using to get their lids REALLY tight and uniform?

BTW we just smoked 2 briskets and 1 turkey yesterday for Easter. My sons first build and our first brisket and turkey ever. Brisket points were solid but flats were a little dry but all tasted good. Bird was great. Now I have to start smoking Thanksgiving turkeys!

If you are making these things all the time you would have a set of rolls and you could make all these various sizes perfect every time. I roll mine around a short piece of pipe about the size of the CC and then fit it the rest of the way as I tack it in place.

What do you mean by a set of rolls? What were doing now is clamping the bar flange on the smoker were building or one the same size....my son is heating the bar red hot and I'm SLOWLY bending it around the pipe. Ice cold molasses would win a race with us. A few taps here and there with a hammer gets it fitting decent. But its not as tight as the pros are doing it.

appreciate the info! My handle might be misleading. I'm an expert in metal roofing...not smokers and welding. 22g is about as thick as i get into lol.

It says it handles up to 1-3/4" solids, that's probably marginally heavy enough for Rodcrafter!

I agree Weldun, as I said it is as cheap as a set of rolls as a person could use for this purpose. But it does answer his question.

I had horrible luck with heat. It always gave me a hickey or v in my bar. I used a mix of leverage, c clamps and brute force. I doubt u could squeeze a dollar bill through mine.
