Look good, well done! Gas springs are definitely different. All round very neat and tidy build.

I think I am finished...... I had a chance to hook up the lights and finished up some small things. Also put another coat of paint on since the wife didn't like the flat black look. Gotta keep the boss happy ya know. Next week is cleaning on the inside of the cook chamber and seasoning it.

It looks great and those shocks work like a dream!! I would put a bungee strap on the door while you are towing it because I've seen doors with heavy counterweights bounce open when you hit a big bump.

I think I am going to add a set of horizontal toggle clamps for the bottom of the door so it won't pop open on me.

Nice on the gas shocks! I've been trying to figure out a way to help with door opening on mine, can't really make counter weights because I have doors on both side. I like that setup. Good job. Where did you source the shocks from if you don't mind me asking.

Well after 3 months of building the smoker, I finally got to use it. Seasoned is Saturday and smoked 4 racks of ribs on Sunday for the first cook. Still have a few small things to do like a wood storage box, propane burner and door latches.

How have those gas springs held up? I am looking to add some to my smoker as well to help with the heavy door since I am not able to use a counterweight.

Hinges worked out great. Glad I did them instead of a counter balance.

Nicely done, what spring load did you order for your door?

I know I’m late on this post... but the gas shocks alone make this one mean cooler.. then u add in the axe handle, single door and gloss black paint.. it’s a show stopper bro. My only concern is heat loss each time u open that big door. Can’t wait to hear how that works out.

I have seen the heat come right back when pits are made of thicker steel. The air just keeps the steel hot the steel keeps the temp right. I wouldn't be afraid to make a large door on any heavy smoker.
