Nice. I do like the wheels on the "father" smoker. Congratulations on your son finishing the mini project. Hopefully the start of many.
Learning generally boils down to "Repetition or the avoidance of pain", some people learn by doing, some by watching and some just have to pee on the electric fence.

Thanks guys! I'll pass on the kind words. Hope to light the "virgin fire" in the GF this weekend I love my stick burner but I think I'm really going to enjoy the GF!

To satisfy the great Omnipotent...Pics of the first fire. Lit the chimney, put a half load of charcoal in. Began the learning process!
Just flat couldn't see spending real money for a ball valve....If my time is worth anything I probably should have bought the valve!
Anybody ever had a temp gauge do that? (look at the internal seal)
Sorry no Q view. Had dinner and supper plans (read: better go to those places hungry instead of filling up at home) so took a few hours to fire it up and season it.

RC-That's going in the back of our minds. The valve, made from a header collector that I didn't use on a hot rod project, slips right over the 2" pipe. Very easily removed when we get to the PID,
Kinda surprised me though how well it ran naturally aspirated!

Last post on this thread. My son and I are still learning the Mini GF. We had a hankerin' for some ribs this weekend.
Used the 3-2-1. Coming out of the rap for the final approach they fell apart. Probably wouldn't have needed the last hour but I wanted a little bark! Mm Mm good!
Thanks guys for all the advice and support!
Sweet Success!

They sure look worthy of chowing down on them. I like to leave them on the foil and either just open it or take the top cover of foil off so they can come back together a little.

Nice... at least now you know all your son's hard work was worthwhile and the unit works as specified.
