The trailer is a skeleton from an old pontoon trailer. Cutting the tank and trailer with angle grinder and cutting blades for circular saw really makes you dream about a PLASMA . Cook box door hinges are front wheel casters off commercial walk behind lawn mower. Probably overkill but they were free just had to be cut apart and reconfigured to work as a hinge.
It looks like you're off to a good start!! I built my trailer rig from scrap so I know what you mean about a tight budget but it's definitely possible if you just keep at it.

Thanks for the encouragement! Here is a few more pics of the progress. Cook box door pretty heavy ! Threw together a counter balance just need to cap ends. Filled it with scrap steel welded all together.Door much more manageable now. Got a 42" handicap bar off a remodel makes a great cook box handle. Put springs from riding lawn mower seat on back of counterbalance. No more banging steel when door is opened.
I like the springs on the counter balance. Neat idea.

Thanks to all for kind words and encouragement. This forum is awesome . Special thanks to those who have taken the time to design the pit calculators. Having these calculators and the knowledgeable poeple here to learn almost seems like cheating[emoji1] Happy 4th to everyone[emoji481] [emoji483]
Hope all had a great 4th . Had my sons home from school for holiday . My oldest and I fished a little on our pond .He had to go back to start camp for football. He plays for Goergia Tech
Finally had a chance to knock out smoker. Have really enjoyed this project looking forward to a gravity flow next.[emoji3] Anyway on to the mandatory pics Had to get expanded metal for racks and fire basket . Then its time for paint , bling and some seasoning and the reason we all do it "Q" view
Paint and bling! Decided to add wood box and folding table to front of smoker. This one will just be used on our property so no lights as it wont see the road.Cutting board will be attached to frame it is piece of corian from a remodel ...pretty indestructible stuff & easy to keep clean[emoji3]
Seasoned it and started to learn what it likes . Had some red oak and grabbed 400 pretty fast . also July in Goergia! Started by closing lower intake about 1/3 and was pleased how quick reaction was . Temp went to around 300 and leaved out . I then closed stack damper about same 1/3 and temp dropped to 240 and hovered around that
The. Addition of splits made a 10-20 degree swing but I'm guessing that is about what would be expected. By closing the top firbox door vent it became very predictable. In 240-265 range. The difference from firbox to stack ends are also kind of expected in the 15 -25 degree range. Definitely planning on some type of baffle in future .[emoji5] I am ready to see this dog hunt! Time for the "Q"
