Smoker Rookie Diving In

Post by Canada-Q » August 4th, 2017, 2:07 pm

Greetings Everyone!

Just saying hello and thanks for accepting me on the forums.

I've been interested in purchasing/building a smoker for about a year now, and I finally decided to pull the trigger. As I was unable to find a quality looking cooker to purchase up here in the North, I just recently went ahead and bought plans for a 48" by 24" diameter RF. I figure it'll be better to have a slightly larger cooker rather than one that's too small.

I'm having a local metal fab shop cut and roll all the pieces for the cooker for me, and then I will assemble it myself with a little help. I've got no experience myself but my best buddy and co-bbq enthusiast Sean is a moderately experienced welder and he's going to be helping me put everything together.

I look forward to sharing the process of my build with everyone, and probably mining the forum's resources for some tips along the way!

Cheers, Pete

Welcome aboard.
Looks like you have got things in hand with your build.
Yep pictures speak louder than words... :D

Welcome to the group! I think a great experience and a whole bunch of fun lies ahead of you and your friend. Best advice I can give you is take your time and don't skimp, these things last a lifetime and trust me, you'll have plenty of time to admire your work while you're cooking so make sure you're able to spend that time admiring and not regretting.

And you're right, it is better to build one that is a little bigger rather than regret having built one too small.

I built the same one...with a few deviations from the plans....but love it. Perfect size for my family of 3 or a work lunch for 90.

Hey would this be the right thread to post about my build or should I start a new thread in a different place? It'll be a combination of my photos and progress, as well as plenty of questions I'm sure.

Thanks in advance.
