New to the forum

Post by JimC66 » September 18th, 2017, 9:18 pm

Hello Guys,
Thanks for adding me to the club.
I have been working on a pig cooker for quite some time.
It's not much to look at but I will soon be ready for paint.
What type of paint do you all use to paint your smokers and where do you get it?

I thought about using high temp rattle cans but I may want something better.
Any info is certainly appreciated.

Thanks JimC!

Ok, I'll post pics when I am done.
I'll admit my welds are like some used cars. They will look good from about 20 yards!

One very nice thing about this forum, nobody criticizes you about your welds. I do what I call gorilla welds... ugly as sin, but strong. And apart from that if you are really worried run the flap disk over them. I've also found a coat of paint makes not so pretty welds look a whole heap prettier.

I just burst out laughing and my wife asked what I was reading.

Interestingly enough, she did not find any humor in that.

Her loss.

But to the question of paint. This topic has come up in the past. Most have chosen to use a rustoleum paint. The rattle-can works but it is also available in a quart that you can run thru a sprayer. I don't remember what the temp rating is but the regular stuff is good for everything except the firebox. I'd use a BBQ or hi temp for that and still plan on touching it up from time to time.

Mine needs painted as well and I am considering powder coating mine. They will sandblast and coat it with a high temp paint that he guarantees will not flake off even the firebox. I still need to finish up a shelf on mine but feel a little money spent now will avoid a lot of aggravation down the road.

Hey if that powder coat works out let me know. I don't want to do that if it's not going hold up. Paint is cheap and easy.
