Fire Box Gasket

Post by whtsmoke » July 9th, 2017, 12:43 pm

I used the fiberglass mesh gasket material and applied it with the RTV sealant and after a couple of smoke the gasket is coming loose, is it due to too much heat in the fire box or is there a better adhesive to use for this?

I haven't used it on the FB but I use it to glue the gaskets on the CC and I haven't ever had any issues. I'm not sure what temp it's rated for but the FB gets pretty hot. I've seen guys use the self adhesive gaskets and tadpole gaskets on the FB without any problems. Did you remove the paint from the mounting area and is it on the door or the FB ?

yes I sanded the finish off on the inside, I dont think it's going to be a problem at least right now as it lays there and doesn't fall off. I was just curious if there was something other to apply it with, I don't even know how much it would leak without it. I can always use a toggle clamp to hold it tight if need be. Thanks BigT you are always jumping in to help me

I use rope on my FB(s) and red silicon. I haven't had any trouble with it.

Do you need latches with firebox too?

If your smoker's FB will hold the door shut tight by gravity (top loading) then you don't need latches otherwise you will.

Well I guess so DC.

Darn it, I was thinking that I don’t know if he has a swinging door or a top lifting door.
