I don’t want to make you do more work but cabinet style doors would make effortless access and I think it would look [emoji102] great too.
Oh and about the big FB it’s about heating a particular cubic feet of air. It doesn’t require a huge fire when the size is right.

Thanks for all the advice. Gonna tweak the dimensions of the FB a bit and probably turn it into some grilling space also. I'm going with two four inch stacks in an effort to even out the flow of heat and smoke. Will post pics of the progress.

One more question. I see the intake size for the FB, but what about the size of the opening from the FB into the CC?

OK, I have a few more questions to clarify the throat opening. I've attached a clip of what the feldon's calc recommends. I tweaked the FB dimensions a bit to 42x42x31 for a little more ground clearance on the trailer. If I have a a two inch grease dam at the bottom, How much wider should the throat opening be? Also, should I put a few inches of plate extending into the cook chamber at the top of the throat opening?

Also going with my two 4" stacks, they will come out an inch or two from the CC before going vertical. Should those inches be included in the total length of the stack or should it just be the vertical length.

I can't really help you on the half moon opening as I use a trapezoid or rectangle. There's a throat calculator at the top of the page with the smoker builder calculators that should be able to help you out. I would extend the top of the throat out to try to avoid an extreme hotspot, some guys use tuning plates to adjust the temp zones in the CC. On the stack only the vertical part is measured, don't include the 90 or manifold where it leaves the CC.

OK, so my welder is back and ready to go. I'm trying to refine my numbers in the calculator. I've attached the new numbers. Not much in there has changed, but would you guys look them over and see that everything looks OK. The other part that I'm still unclear on is the throat opening. With what the calc says I'm thinking of a 23.25" X 18 throat opening with a 4" deep plate angled at about 30 degrees extending into the CC to deflect a bit of heat entering the CC. Then a 14" X 11.5" FB intake with a slide door to choke it if needed.

Oh, I'm also using two 4" stacks at the bottom grate level instead of one 8" stack in an effort to even out the airflow across the width of the CC.

What say you!!??

The only thing that jumps out at me is the twin stacks at grate level. If they are mounted that low and are only 25.5'' long, will they be taller than the top of the CC ? If they aren't above the CC they may not draft properly but I can't say that for sure. I've seen angled plates at the throat, you just have to make sure that it doesn't choke the throat down smaller than recommended.

No, will be two 4" at 51.8. So same volume
And I think the deflection plate will be fine, but I could open the throat by a half inch.
