Starting soon, question?

Post by Heatermeter builder » November 6th, 2017, 4:43 pm

I'm impatiently waiting for my cut matetial, either today or tomorrow, hopefully. Ido have a questions about insulation.

Would it be ok to get the roxul comfortbat 3.5 inch think material and cut it down to 2 inches, fit in the frame. I can't find any 2 inch locally and I really don't want to spend $40 on shipping.

Anyways, this waiting crap sucks. I'm waiting on my steel to get all cut, except for the holes, which I will have done at work, it's driving my crazy.

You can do it that way but I'm not sure how easy the stuff is to cut. Maybe some of the other guys can answer that question.

They say it cuts with a butter knife, from the reviews.

Another question

My steel provider said they did not have 5 id schedule 40 pipe(.260) but could give me some schedule 80(.375) pipe instead. Will this be ok to use. I know it's a tad thicker, would I even notice on the vent stack.

There's no difference in performance, just a little heavier.

Thanks, that's what I figured.

My steel supplier sent me an email yesterday that they were out of .5 inch material and when they get it in they will cut it with a plasma cutter, instead of the laser. Not sure how a steel company could be out of something fairly common, but anyway plasma will be just as good.

If anybody lives in the Puget Sound area, Tacoma Steel sucks. I would have paid a tad bit more for less hassle then dealing with them again.

I'm not sure but it sounds like you are just very excited about this whole build process. I can relate to that.

My wife also has to give thanks to Begg. And I mean that in a sacastic way, lol.

She has yet to say anything about the welder, the 160cu cylinder attached to the garage wall, the two welding tables, the soon to be 8 insulation panels that will arrive Thursday. Maybe she will finally break her silence when I finally receive the steel and it slowing becomes a smoker, lol.

Welcome to the forums Jtoona

Tell your wife it's my fault. Always easier to place blame somewhere else, and ALWAYS easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

You probably have found the caption when you are trying to get your second posting star; "got in trouble for buying tools" we all go through it unless your shop is 600 feet from the house and your wife rarely comes down, then you tell her you have had oh a long time and never admit the price. :wrestlinchair:

That's what I do.

Wife: "When did you buy that?"
Me: "Uh I've had it for a while. Way before we met."
(Wife rolls eyes)

It is sometimes easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

And the biggest giveaway is still keeping the boxes the tool/s came in. Take them out the box, sprinkle a little dust on them, a few oily fingerprints never goes to waste either.

I'm safe r.c. the missus does not read the forum. Heck she frowns on my metalworking happiness and in all honesty would not know what kit I have in the shed. But I still take all the precautions. You know you've been rumbled when they come home with multiple pairs of shoes and a few handbags. =))

My biggest fear in life is my wife selling my stuff after I'm gone for what I told her I paid for it!

My wife would give it away for free.

Yep, I've always said I'd like to attend the auction sale of my shed after I shuffle off. One would pick up an absolute bargain for sure.

A great project is designed around a tool or piece of equipment that needs to be purchased.

I always justify my tools by telling the missus "see how much easier/faster things are when you have the right tools", I usually just get a "yes sweetie" in return, I have a feeling she might just be patronizing me. :?

But still, it seems like permission, right?

Too much is just right!
