Well I made a fair size fire to burn it in. And it went to 400 quick. I am realizing that for 225 you don’t need much. Also temp at top mid and lower are way differentBig T wrote:There’s definitely a learning curve with a RF. Did you watch the video on building a fire in a RF ? It doesn’t take a big fire to maintain temp, that was one of the biggest issues that I had when I built my first one. I start off with about 6-8 lbs of charcoal and once it’s all turning white I toss a couple of splits on there and let it slowly come up to temperature. Once it’s dialed in I have to add a split or two about every 45-60 minuets. Also when you make any adjustments to the intake or exhaust it will take a few minutes for those adjustments to take effect.

No vent. And warming cabinet gets way hot. Only stack to dump heat. But doesn’t matter if opened or closed. Common sense would say if ya want to displace one thing another must enter ?valleysmoker wrote:Do you have a vent from the fire box to the warming box? What kind of temps are you getting in the warming box? That thing looks awesome...
I don’t. May need to add oneRodcrafter wrote:I hope you have a opening between the FB and the cabinet above it. I use that portion on mine as a vertical a lot. Nice rig!

My fat bottom grilRodcrafter wrote:It’s a really good design and different levels cook different. Like the bottom rack may be 50* different than the top rack. But the bottom rack gets radiant heat from the baffle plate which can make it cook in the same amount of time as the top rack. You’ll learn it. So what do you call her?

Ok thank youRodcrafter wrote:Now I see where my other post is. I put an 6” x 6” opening in the top of my FB into the WC with a damper on it and a damper on the one going into the main CC so I could close the main off and just cook in the WC.

My w/c gets to hot. Around 250. The f/b top is the w/c bottom. There is a 6 inch pipe on top to dump heat as needed but nothing come out. Gonna add the vent or dampners down low to draw in ambient air.Rodcrafter wrote:

GotchaRodcrafter wrote:The top of my FB is 1/4" with 2" of insulation then another 1/4" plate for the bottom of the WC Then I put an 1/4 drip pan / baffle plate.
Yours will work just fine with a nice fitting cool air intake vent. Don't make anymore work than you have to.
Jesus Christ RC, a 1/4" drip pan? Lol. Now I understand all the jokes about the weight of your rig.Rodcrafter wrote:The top of my FB is 1/4" with 2" of insulation then another 1/4" plate for the bottom of the WC Then I put an 1/4 drip pan / baffle plate.
