Wow, what a mess.

And now seeing the tank standing up it looks much bigger then I thought it was.

The rest of the build will seem like a vacation, stick with it and youll be smokin in no time.

Well a few updates. I picked up a flux core welder over Thanksgiving. It's not the best, but it will get the job done. It took a few minutes to get the settings right, but I think I'm close. I spent last Saturday evening sitting in bed, watching the Big 10 championship game and designing what I want the smoker to look like. I had an idea, but I wanted to get it down on paper and get an idea of the materials I am going to need. I am still trying to figure out one last detail. Its kind of a big one. Do I make it into a trailer or not. Pros and cons would be great, as I'm sure there is something I have not thought of. Thanks in advance.

Get yourself the full face shield and wear your safety glasses underneath that. That's best for any extended work with an angle grinder. Don't be afraid to buy a nice face shield and glasses also. The cheap will scratch quickly and make it hard to see which will discourage you from using them.

Nice job so far!

So I have been running crazy busy since before Christmas. About two weeks ago, I was able to start working on this thing again. I am adding about a two foot section to the middle. In that section, I will have two levels where I will have fire boxes that I can slide from side to side. I added angle iron to the front and back, that the fire boxes will be able to slide and back and forth on. On the ends, as they are curved, it will be more difficult. I added some two inch flat stock that I overlapped to support the ends I will add later. Here are a couple of picture from my phone. The welds are not that great, as they are my forest welds in about twenty or more years and they were upside down. Right now they are just tacked in, in case i need to go back and change something. I know, excuses....

I hope this gives an idea of what I have in mind. It is going slow though. I don't have nearly as much time to work on it as I hoped I would have. The frame is just tac'd in at this point.

There will be a rotisserie on top. I will be putting plate steel around the outside. Two doors on one side to move trays of the wood/charcoal up or down (depending on grilling or smoking). I have the top of the tank that I will cut in half and put on top to close it. I will post more pictures as I go along. Sorry it's such a slow build.

Okay now I'm starting to understand. :kewl:

Don't apologize for the slow going. I married my wife 35 years ago and I still haven't got her figured out - some things just take a while … :D
